Catalina is Coming: What You Should Know for macOS 10.15

MacOS Catalina — also known as version 10.15 — is currently in beta, and if you use a Mac, it is possibly on your radar for your current or next computer. While there are lots of new features for the Mac user, there is one that is crucially important for people using Photo Mechanic version 5: Catalina will no longer allow 32-bit applications to run. If you’ve been keeping up with regular Mac updates, you may have seen warning dialogs come up telling you that certain programs need to be updated to work with future versions of macOS. With Catalina, that future is now. If you update to macOS Catalina or buy a new Mac with Catalina installed, Photo Mechanic version 5 will not run on that computer.

The good news is that Photo Mechanic® 6 is fully 64-bit and runs on macOS 10.15 Catalina. If you purchased your Photo Mechanic version 5 license after Jan 1, 2018, you’re eligible for a free upgrade to Photo Mechanic 6. If you purchased Photo Mechanic version 5 prior to that date, you may still be eligible for the $89 upgrade price.

Can I still use Photo Mechanic version 5?
If you use Photo Mechanic version 5, and you do not want to or are unable to upgrade to Photo Mechanic 6, it will continue to work on your computer as it always has only if you do not update to macOS 10.15 Catalina. Camera Bits never wants to force people into an upgrade, but in this case Photo Mechanic version 5 simply will not work on the new version of macOS.

If you are curious about your upgrade options, you can log into your account and see if you are eligible. Contact our support team if you have further questions. Thanks for using Photo Mechanic!
