Photo Mechanic: Now Apple Silicon Native

The latest production build of Photo Mechanic (both standard and Plus editions) is now a Universal binary application, i.e. it is now an Apple Silicon-native application. As we noted when this went into public Beta, this has been the culmination of a lot of hard work from our development team. We know many folks have been waiting a long time for this, and we’re proud to release it now after extensive testing, including the public Beta period. Thank you to everyone who downloaded the Beta and provided feedback. This has helped us improve our release quality and we expect to continue this process for future releases.

This release is for current Monthly and Annual subscribers to Photo Mechanic or Photo Mechanic Plus, as well as those who purchased a perpetual license for either of those after 11 March, 2024.

One important detail: Many folks on macOS have become used to the automatic software build updates that happen in the background. Because this is a new build, it is on a separate “update” track, which means that to switch to it, you will need to download the .dmg installer which you can find on our Downloads page or at this link:

Once you download and install the Universal binary, automatic updates will continue as usual.
